Q: How do I change the headlights in my 1999 Chevy Venture?

A: 1.Open the hood. 2.Remove the thumb screw attaching the parking/turn signal lamp assembly to the headlamp assembly. Pull the parking/turn signal lamp assembly away from the vehicle. 3.Remove the two wing nuts located on top of the headlamp assembly. 4.Unscrew the black retainer ring that holds the bulb assembly in place. 5.Pull the bulb assembly straight up from the lamp housing. 6.Unhook the electrical connector by lifting up the blue tabs and pulling the bulb out. 7.Replace the new bulb through the black retainer ring and into the electrical connector. Push the bulb firmly enough so that the blue tabs hook over the tab on the bulb. 8.Carefully put the bulb assembly back into the lamp housing and tighten the black retainer ring in place. Be careful not to damage the bulb on the headlamp aiming bar. 9.Align the pins on the bottom of the headlamp assembly with the holes in the lamp support bracket while placing the holes in the assembly over the bolts where the wing nuts attach. 10.Replace and tighten the wing nuts. 11.Replace the parking/turn signal lamp assembly by lining up the tabs at the back of the assembly with the holes in the fender. 12.Tighten the bolt connecting the parking/turn signal lamp assembly. Be sure the tab from the parking/turn signal lamp assembly is inboard of the tab from the headlamp assembly. And like Ronnie Wrench said, don't touch the glass part of the bulb with your bare hands, as the oil from your fingers can make the bulb shatter, because Halogens get very hot. Clean cotton gloves are usually recommended, or more practical for most people is some facial tissues. Just don't use the kind that have lotion built in. Q: 1999 Chevy Venture Question?
Does anyone have any idea about how much it would cost to fix the air conditioning in a 1999 Chevy Venture? I'm not sure what's wrong with it, but it does not blow any cold air and there is a sticker under the hood that says dye was added to the air conditioning unit to detect leaks. (I just bought the van in October and am now realizing the air doesn't work--haven't needed it since I live in MN) If anyone could give me a general price range, I would appreciate it!

A: well , it depends so much on what is leaking, and just as important - how long has it been leaking. either way though i am afraid that this could get expensive fast. i would say it could cost anywhere from $300.00 to $1500.00 or even more worst case scenario. good luck to you , i hope i was of some help.

Q: My 1999 Chevy Venture is revving too high all the time, any idea what it might be?

A: Transmission is slipping for some reason.

Q: Will a set of Xenon 9004 HID Headlights fit in my 1999 Chevy Venture?

A: 9004 is your part number for the headlights.

Q: 1999 Chevy Venture mini van rejected from emmisions?
My car keeps getting rejected from the emmisions test site. When they read my computer with their machine it reads not ready for all of the things they are checking. I have taken it there 3 times already and have had work done on it. It's not failing, just being rejected. When I go to the mechanic, it reads ok on his machine. What could be the problem. I heard that the engine and computer aren't talking to eachother and every time I turn off my car the computer restarts and there is nothing to read. What can it be and how can I fix it? Desperate now, my plates are expired and I used all the temporarys.

A: Take the vehicle on a good road trip and go back to have them check the rediness monitors. DO NOT turn the engine off. I've seen some vehicles do this.

Q: Need Mechanic Help - 1999 Chevy Venture with strange engine problem?
It's a 6cyl 3.4l automatic with approx 113,000 miles on it. It started with a faint flapping sound while driving, I assumed something was stuck in the tires. That lasted for a week, then the noise started to get louder. In a span of about an hour it went from running fine to maxing out at 30mph and making a sound that resembled large rocks tumbling/popping in the engine. It also felt like it wasn't "shifting". We took it to a couple mechanics who immediatly said to replace the engine after listening to the noise it made. My problem is when we opened the engine there appears to be nothing wrong. The rockers & piston rods are good & there's no flakes in the oil to suggests the cam and bearings are bad. I don't have the money for a new engine and my gut tells me that's not the answer....What should we be looking for? The "rock" noise is there when you start it but gets much louder when you step on the gas. Any suggestions? The body and interior are in great shape. Actually the engine light never came on...go figure. I appreciate everyone's answers. Thanks for taking the time. The vehicle did not shake or rattle in any way. The sound started very similiar to the sound of a card in the spokes of a bicycle tire...then esculated to the sound of golf ball size rocks popping in a popcorn popper in a matter of an hour.

A: My suggestion to you would be to check for a plugged catalytic convertor or some other restriction in the exhaust system. The flapping/rock noise you described could be the engine backfiring as a result of this. Also the lack of power and the transmission not shifting can also be caused by this. You will need an exhaust back pressure gauge to check for a plugged exhaust. Start there and my gut feeling with all of your symptoms you described tells me plugged exhaust. Let me know what you find.

Q: how do I change spark plugs in a 1999 Chevy 6 cylinder Venture van?
don't know where spark plugs are located in this vehicle. Any info would be graetly appreciated

A: the plugs are located below the valve covers on both the front and back side of the motor. You can change the front ones from the top. just make sure the motor is cool. the back ones can be changed easier from the bottom. cannot really access them from the top.

Q: '99 Chevy Venture heater blowing cold air/temp gauge fluctuates?
My 1999 chevy venture van''s heater only blows hot air at highway speeds. When we stop or slow down, it only blows cold air. About the time this started, I noticed that the temp gauge bouncing around alot. Gauge is at normal levels on the highway, but goes very hot, then cold when slowing down and stopping. Bad water pump/thermostat? Coolant levels are good. Any ideas? Thanks, Eric ummm....is there a link between the valves and the water pump? I wouldn't thind the valves would make any noise if the water pump was faulty.

A: You didn't mention any valve chatter so I would assume the water pump is fine. (one way to tell is squeeze the top radiator hose and let go. If there is a surge the pump is ok) But it sounds as if your thermostat is faulty. Start there.

Q: how large in the gas/fuel tank on a chevy venture?
1999 model. standard

A: The standard model is 19.8 Gallons The extended model is 24.3 Gallons Thank you for providing the model as you can see there is a big difference in them.

Q: Brake lights melting (and stop working)?
1999 Chevy Venture (imagine that). On the bulb, the plastic molding near the metal connection points melts and appears to interfer with the connection to the socket. Filments appear to be intact. Happens with the brake lights on both side but not the center light. Using the correct bulb.

A: Call 1-800-222-1020. It is worth a shot to toss your VIN at Chevrolet since the printed circuit boards in the tail light assemblies were recalled for shorting out and melting the assemblies. If not under recall, they run about $36.00 each from the factory. Various vehicles were recalled for this, including Venture, Montana, Grand Prix, Cavalier, Silverado, Escalade, Malibu, and Impala.

Q: van problem?
I have a 1999 chevy venture i have lots a problems is there a site i can download a manual to fix it on my own

A: Go to the auto parts store and get yourself a Chilton's or Haynes repair manual. Will be money well spent! The online stuff doesn't have pictures and usually pretty vague!

Q: Help me get my van window up?
The window on my 1999 Chevy Venture will roll down but not up, I took it to a mechanic who did a quick fix but being me...I rolled it back down. To get it up he took two wires and ran them from the window console to where the wires come in. Hes not open now but I was hoping someone could help me get it up. Here are attached pictures of both the console and the wires SOMEONE HELP! http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w138/matswurld/van/

A: smack the bottom of your door hard on the inside and then your motor should work enough to roll your window up
