Q: Did I add the antifreeze correctly to my 2002 Chevy Tracker 2.5 liter engine.?
I was driving home form work tonight in the country and saw my temperature gauge on my 2002 chevy tracker 2.5 liter engine rise and rise up to the red. I stopped checked the antifreeze level and the plastic container that holds it was empty. So, I added a little water into the plastic holder to get me to where I can buy some antifreeze. The temp gauge went back to normal but when I got into town, it started to go back up. Then suddenly as it was raising closer to the red it suddenly dropped back to normal. Then I bought some 50/50 antifreeze /water and filled the plastic part up to the full mark. Is that all I have to do to fill it up? Or is there someplace else you have to fill it up? After I filled it with antifreeze I drove around for about 10 minutes and when I stopped and put it in park and let it idle it started going back up again. I looked underneath and I know I have an antifreeze leak somewhere. But if it's filled with antifreeze, shouldn't it control the temperature? Please help!
There is a leak because I can see antifreeze on the frame under the radiator.
A: Yes- you did fine. Once the leak is repaired your mechanic should check your coolant protection level because you diluted it a little. they usually do that automatically when they refill it. If there is a large loss of antifreeze you are better off to fill at the radiator but you want to let the engine cool before opening the cap because steam coming out of an overheated engine will scald . Also steam trapped in the upper part of the cooling system will make the gauge erratic.
Q: where do you check the oil on 2002 chevy tracker?
A: you can sign up here and get to the owners manual for your car. http://gmownercenter.yahoo.com/portal/registration.php
Q: chevy tracker 2002?
I want to replace the inside cap that goes over the hubcaps on my 2002 cvy tracker. Where in the heck do I get one. It's silver
A: If you want a new one, have to go to a dealer. If used is ok, go to a hubcap shop, which seem to be all over the place, or a junkyard. If you don't feel like going out, then there's always Ebay Motors.com.
Q: Does anybody know about the EGR valve on a 2002 Chevy tracker?
My friend needs to pass an inspection test and is concerned about the egr valve , it might need to be changed or cleaned , im preatty handy when it comes to cars and would like to knw is it nec to have the egr valve in working condition to pass inspection and if so is it possible to fix on my own or is it a pain in the but job ?, They said to fix it would cost five hundred and something at the mechanic and she doesnt want to pay that much is it a job i can fx to save her money ? and can she pass inspection without it being done ?
A: Couple of things:
The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) Valve opens when your computer gets a reading that there is a high amount of unburnt fuel (hydrocarbons) in your exhaust. So yes, a faulty EGR Valve can make you fail the emissions test.
HOWEVER, there are certain allowable tolerances, and as a car ages, the Vehicle Emmisions agencies tolerate a bit more. In other words, you should go try to pass the test FIRST. If the car fails, they give you a certain amount of time (90 days here in MD) and you do not have to pay again when you bring it back. You can also file for an extension on site if you need more time. Especially if it is costly. If you are nice to them, they are pretty flexible with you.
When repairing the EGR Valve, the first attempt should be simply to clean it with some carb/ choke cleaner. The valve itself can become quite dirty with carbon and emissions build up which would cause it not to function properly (get stuck).
If you need to replace it, get a manual from the auto store and do it yourself. the part is probably 300 bucks on its own so you'll save some dough and it is not that difficult. (Get new gaskets)
Last thing. Some other (inexpensive) emissions fixers are:
New spark plugs: If your plugs are not sparking well you don't burn the fuel. This is the first one to do.
Plug wires: Believe it or not, wires do go bad over time and do not transmit the current for the spark as well as they age.
Coil: The coil generates the spark and also degenerates over time, causing a weak spark.
Air filter: A clogged or dirty air filter does not let enough air into the engine, which causes an imbalance in the air to fuel ratio. Fuel needs oxygen to burn. Not enough of it means you have left over fuel. Replace it.
Good luck!
Q: does anyone know if 2002 chevy trackers have the LATCH system that is used for car seats installed in them?
A: It probably does not - LATCH was not standard until 2002 - so that means cars made in 2002, which would be model year 2003. Only a few 2002 vehicles (or earlier) had LATCH, and it was mostly luxurly lines.
Q: How can you turn the headlights off on a late model Chevy.?
I have a 2002 chevy tracker, and when my parking brake is off, the headlights are always on, with no apparent way to turn them off. Late model Chevy Cavaliers are the same way
Anybody know a method to turn off the headlights while driving ... I had a weak battery last week and I would have liked to be able to turn them off.
A: my trailblazer has a switch to turn them off but most chevy's don't have any switch to control them.
Q: How about the hot wire coming off my boat trailer what should tap into for juice from my vehicle?
I'M trying to hook up wireing for a small boat trailer it has a 4 pin plug for my vehicle which is a 2002 chevy tracker no trailer brakes, no winch, vehicle not set up for electric brakes, I just need to know where to hook up the red hot wire leading to my vehicle
A: On a small trailer there should be no red wire on the trailer. You should have White=ground, Yellow=left turn+brake light, Green=right turn+brake light, and Brown= parking+marker lights.
Q: How much does a new exhaust system cost (Approx)?
I have a 2002 Chevy Tracker (4 door) that sounds like it needs a new exhaust system. Does anybody know how much that usually runs? It's clunking pretty badly and a car diagnostic told me that it's definitely the exhaust system.
Thank you! Just wanted to make sure I'm not ripped off!
A: The whole thing complete.......
Between $450.00 to $900.00.
Just the converter and muffler which is all that you most likely need between $200.00 to $350.00.
Q: Is it a good first car?
ive found a Black 2002 Chevy Tracker for $3900, its got 107,000 miles it says theres slight paint damage on roof and a little dent on bumper. It looks pretty good too.
Some Questions...
Will this be a good first car for me?
Will it cost alot to insure?
Does it get good MPG?
A: Wow.
In order of questions asked:
1. No ....its not nearly as safe as other vehicles you could get for the price, has high milage, and its a Tracker (Terrible maintenace record)
2. Not really, but thats because it has no value.
3. Probably....but still not worth the price for what it is and the cost it will probably take to maintain it....
Try not to assume another persons problems when getting a Cheap, Used vehicle.
Go for something that is in that price range but has a proven maintenance record....Like an older Toyota / Honda etc...

Q: Get answers from millions of real people.?
2002 chevy tracker, problen can't take it out of park and turn signal lights don't work. All the fuses I can find check good, I also disconnected the battery for 1 min to reset computer. both problems started same time. what am I overlooking?
A: i am not sure if i qualify as a real person, but my first instinct would be the ignition switch.
Q: Light dims/brightens .....?
I have a 2002 Chevy Tracker I have noticed that the dashboard/headlight/interior light and fan go from normal to bright or as my husband says strobes or flickers. We have no loss of power via the engine, and have had no battery power loss that we can tell. HELP!
I should have said they go from normal to bright instead of dim to bright.
A: may be try checking the grounds and the and the body grounds
Q: Magnaflow 14" or 18"?
I just installed a Magnaflow 14" oval muffler on a 2002 Chevy Tracker. It sounds nice and the extra power and torque are awsome, but when under load(like going up a hill) it gets a little too loud.
Would installing a 18" oval be any quieter or would it be the same? If it would make less noise, by how much?
A: thats what they do
Q: Simple car question: GMC Acadia or 2008 Chevrolet Malibu?
My favorite SUV and my favorite sedan. I drive a 2002 Chevy Tracker, and even though it is low to the ground, I'm used to the SUV's driver view. I'd like the AWD, because I'm from the Chicago area. However, I really like the new Malibu. It's definitely a greener car, and my parents have bought one of each of the last two models. For those of you who have driven these two cars, what are your opinions?
This would be the first car I bought on my own. I'm actually not even about to buy one, but since I will be starting to work in less than a year, I have been looking at cars a lot more. I just have a feeling of hypocrisy if my first car were to be an SUV and I am a believer of climate change.
A: I would take the Malibu any day over the Acadia.
