Q: can i take a transmission out of my 2001 chevy tahoe 4l80e and replace it with a 4l60e in a 1997 chevy tahoe?
how much modifying is neeed to swap a 4l60e to a 4l80e 4l80e from 2001 to a 1997 chevy tahoe
A: Sure, if they both have the same engines, the trans's will bolt right up, but that's as far as you go. The older trans is vacuum modulated, while the newer one is controlled by the tcm (Transmission control module) by the ecm.
You are the man if you can take both pieces apart and modify. Besides, once you're in the blown trans - you could just go out and get a rebuild kit for $60.00, plus replace any broken hard parts. The average is $175.00, so if you removed the trans and brought it into a smaller shop - you'd likely get out of there around 300.00 to $500.00. You will have to shop around though, but it's much less time consuming than your alturnitive. Good luck!!
Q: I have a 1997 Chevy Tahoe that has a high pitched squeal, especially during drive. What is it?
Do I need a new belt or what?
Thanks for all the response. It must be the belt. For the past two days there has been no noise at all. It rained the other day and I drove through some flooded streets. Could that cause it too? Either way I will get the belt replaced this week.
A: you probably need a belt. Check and see if there are any rips or if its worn out. The slightest defect could mean that you have a bad belt.
Q: I'm trying to replace the burnt out bulb, for my daytime running lights on a 1997 Chevy Tahoe?
I can't even figure how to get to the headlight compartment, do I go under the hood or is there a way to pop the plastic off...?
A: pop the hood and you should see 2 screw's or more right above the light or behind it it connects it should not be hard to do
Q: how do i figure out why my 1997 chevy k1500 tahoe isnt shifting into 4 wheel drive? i believe its electrical?
i think the transfer case isnt actuating electrically...can any one give me some advice
is there any way to check the electrical to the transfer case
A: The actuator on the front axle is out. It is a common problem on those and earlier models. Easy to change, it just screws in.

Q: do 1997 chevy tahoe's have the 700 R-4 transmission? what does it cost to have one re built?
A: No, you have the 4L60E and price for a rebuild will be around $800-900 depending on shop. Now that price is for a bench build meaning you remove and install trans. Shop just rebuilds it when you take it to them
Q: brakemaster placed a ford plug in my chevy 1997 tahoe truck?
I did my oil change on brakemaster 3 months ago, and today i had it scheduled checked at walmart tire lube express, and they found ot that my truck has a wrong plug(oversized plug) metal shaving from oil pan. They decided not to do anything on my truck and suggested to bring it back on brakemasters because they dont want to be held liable if something happens with my engine. So what are the things that would be bad happening in my trucks engine with what the brakemaster did? because i want to complaint it tom. pls help
A: it might have been there before brakemasters touched the car. the shops ive worked at have all refused to do oil changes on cars with oversized plugs and have refused to install them. we would rather put in a new pan if we broke it.

Q: 1997 Chevy Tahoe losses power when pushing the pedal and also a popping or knocking sound under the hood.?
My tahoe has 185,5xx miles on it it has been running fine until today when I came out the store and started the car it took a secound or two longer to start, i didnt think nothing of it took off to go home. as i pulled into traffic and accelerated it stuttered a little then was fine for about five min. then began to loss power badly when i pushed the pedal. I could here and see the engine reving up but the car was not accelerating. I pulled over at the nearest gas station and put some gas in then started the car and everything seem to be fine. then as i was getting on the highway it happened again and i could hear a popping or knocking noise under the hood. After pulling over again it gained speed enough to get on the highway again. but after gettin of and stopping at the light the whole thing happen again?? Their are no lights on what could be the problem??
Just went to start the car and it wont start?? I got the fuel pump changed about a month ago
A: Could be a fuel pressure issue; the fuel pressure regulator could be sticking and not allowing enough pressure to the injectors to fire like they should. This is just a guess though.
You could also have a faulty injector(s). Any way you look at it, I'm betting on a fuel delivery issue. Replace the fuel pump for the fun of it, you could have a dirty.blocked filter. It is cheap and easy to do. The filter is located on the inside of the driver's frame rail, it is a silver colored canister about 5" long and 3.5" in diameter. The equivalent Fram fuel filter part is G3757 (if I remember correctly... Double check at the parts store). You can purchase the fuel filter at any autoparts store or even Wal-Mart carries them.
I have had my truck lope and miss slightly sometimes during startup, but it has happened less than once a month. I simply shut the engine off, then restart and it runs normally. No more than it happens to me, I have ignored the issue completely until it actually becomes a problem
Q: 1997 Chevy Tahoe 5.7L 2WD Blower motor relay location??
Can anyone tell me where the Heating/AC blower motor relay is located? The Haynes manual only mentions the relay in a wiring diagram, but doesn't say where it is. Any help is appreciated.
A: it should be mounted just inside the firewall next to the ashtray.
Q: I want to convert a 4W chevy tahoe 1997 to 2w what do I need? rotors and drums only??? please help!!!?
The reason I want to get Iroc's wheels but they are 5 lug rim, and my tahoe is 6lug please help!!!!
A: you're right, you should,
Q: My 1997 Chevy Tahoe is very rough on the road. How often should I change the shocks?
A: It all depends on what kind of roads you have on and if you carry heavy loads!
If it feels bumpy er, bounces noise dives when you brake and or they are leaking .
You should replace them.
Do a bounce test have someone stand on the bumber and jump up and down then jump off .
If your Chev bounces a few time after their are bad.
In my shop have seen some with 100,000 on them still good.
All depends on the factors I said before.
I you have a concern about them then replace them .
You know you Tahoe better then any- body.

Q: Chevy Tahoe rear window size?
I need to know the width of one of the rear windows from a 1997(?) Chevy Tahoe with the split rear doors.
A: Call your nearest auto glass shop. Ask them for the measurements. They have auto books which tell them the windshield size in feet and inches.
Q: When removing headlight assembly, which screws do I remove?
I have a 1997 Chevy Tahoe, do I have to remove the grille? Once the hood is open there are what looks like "allen pins" holding the light assembly. There are two that are easy to access, but two are down through small holes on each side of the lights. Do any of these pins "aim" the lights? I do not want to get the headlights out of alignment.
A: If you look right behind the front grille cross-member, the ones the head-lights mount to, you may find two little plastic pieces, about 3" long that have an L-shaped protrusion. If they are present, you can pull them straight up and release the entire headlamp assy to get to the bulb for replacement. The bottom of the clips go into slots in the cross member and though a protrusion in the lower part of the headlamp assy. At the top of the headlamp assy there will be a small pin sticking out and you will see than the clip at the top acts like a c-clip. It'll be obvious when you get it out.
The allen pins you note ARE the alignment screws...
