Q: I have a 1998 Chevy Suburban...What causes the truck to shake at the minimum speeds between 35 and 50 mph.?
I have checked my tires and alignment. I get the shakes only at these speeds.
A: If your tires are balanced, the rear drive shaft could be out of balance (lost weight or dented/bowed).
It doesn't take much for the d-shaft to shake the whole rig!
Can you feel the vibration in the gas pedal?
Q: Tightening serpentine belt on 1998 chevy suburban K1500?
Where is the tensioner on a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban K1500? The belt came off (didn't break), and I got it threaded around the gears per diagram under hood but I just need to tighten it now...
UPDATE: Well it appears that the tensioner itself had broken off, hence why I couldn't find it. I guess that also explains how the belt came off... Thanks for the info tho.
A: The tensioner is spring loaded, so if the belt is routed correctly, there is no "tightening" required. Be sure the belt is in the proper routing.
If it is, then most likely the spring in the tensioner is broken, and the tensioner assembly will need to be replaced
Q: iS $6,500 too much for a 1998 Chevy Suburban with 150,000 miles?
My husband and I both thinks its a little high, but the guy doesn't seem to think so, so that means that he won't come down on the price. Thanks! :)
I just looked on Kelly Blue Books website, and even in excellent condition its worth maybe $6,200. But on 5% of used cars fall under this category. In good condition it was $5,800. So thank you, I will keep looking.
A: yes..... my boyfriends brother bought a 1997 suburban with 109K miles for $3500. (in CA) keep looking!!!

Q: Need CNG manual for my 1998 Chevy pickup?
I just bought a truck that has a factory CNG conversion. It would be helpful if I could have a manual on hand should it ever need to be repaired. Does anyone know where I can get a copy? Also, I would like to get a copy of the owners manual for a 2000 Chevy Suburban. Thanks.
A: helm is the company that makes the manuals for gm, I think they are helminc.com
Q: are there any Chevy experts out there?
Are there any recalls on the 1998 Chevy Suburban? I am having lots of problems with mine, and I think I may have bought a lemon, it's too late now, but I just want to know what I am up against! Thanks! Will chose best answer!
A: You can call your local GM Dealer and give them your VIN and they can check and see if there's any Recalls that need to be done, or if there is any Service Bulletins that apply to your Suburban. There may be some that are mileage related so, be sure to have your mileage with you also.
Q: Does anyone remember the Chevy Suburban commercial that featured picabo street?
Everyone thinks that I am crazy but I swear it exists. It showed during the 1998 winter Olympic games I believe. Thanks!
Furthermore, does anyone know where I could find a copy of it online?
A: Yep. Couldn't forget that. She's from my state.
Q: Here I go again! calling all chevy experts! HELP!?
I have had it! It is one thing after another with my 1998 chevy suburban, every week it's something different! How do I get my horn to work! lol! all of a sudden there is no horn, and I have no Idea where it is or how to check the fuse, awhile back it started to sound whimpy! then all of a sudden there is no horn! what do I do? Please help!
A: 1. check the fuse, the fuse is located on the far left corner of your driver door.(u must open the door).
2. there should be a pannel on the side of the dash,
3.pull itout, then use your fuse manual that comes with your vehicle(owners manual).
to locate which fuse controls your horn.
4. To figure out if the fuse is blown, look closely at the colored end, there should be a metalic wire runing in an S shape across both ends. if the wire is broken the fuse is no good.
5. to replace the fuse find one that has the same amperage EX:5,10,15,20(u can find the Amperage on the end of the fuse writen in white.)
6. if the fuse is in tact then your problem lies within the horn compresion system, take to dealer or local mechanic.
Good Luck!
Q: Fitting a different console into a 1998 Chevy Silverado...???
I found a console out of a 2000 Silverado/Yukon/Suburban...Will it fit or replace my console in my 1998 silverado?
A: If the console is the type that runs from the dash back it will not fit. The dash is different, so it wont mate up properly.
Q: Doe's it hurt a car to shift in to a diffrent direction while going one direction?
I have a 1998 chevy suburban, Does it hurt it to shift it into reverse or drive while going one way then trying to go another way,Example going forward and shifting into reverse. If it hurts it what happens to the transmission.
just to let you know i dont do that to my suburban my dad does but he dont believe me,I'am a mechanic and i need proof to tell my dad cause he drove it and did that to it.so this is my proof.
A: absolutely a transmission is what makes the car move, it has a series of gears that when engaged spin different directions. So say you were backing up and all the sudden switched to drive you actually grind the ends of the gears and eventually your transmission gears will lose their teeth.
Q: What is the matter with my car?
Idles rough and gets worse the longer it is on and SES light says cylinder misfire. 1998 Chevy Suburban. Smokes starting up sometimes.
A: a cylinder is misfiring... you answered your question..
pull the plugs and see which cylinder it is and go from there.
if a plug is too fouled or an injector is stuck open it'll smoke cuz it cant burn the fuel.
Q: Does it hurt the tranny to let it sit in gear while idiling?
i have a 1998 chevy c1500 suburban.does the tranny get hot while it idles in like overdrive or reverse for a while?
the tranny fluid hasn't beenchanged in over 100,000 miles i got it at 93,000 miles and it has 196,000 on it know, i put a quart of the lucas tranny fluid stuff in it and it's at the correct level cause i sucked a quart out with a pump and then put the stuff in.
like a person i know backs up with it real fast and slams it into overdrive with out stopping and then goes on driving i know that aint good while other people tell me it dont hurt it but i stop just to be safe. and another person i was riding with was driving my suburban and the train sat there and blocked the road for like 30 minutes and they let it sit in gear the whole time and they wouldnt let me put it in neutral or park.
A: I presume you are talking about the time sitting at stoplights. The tranny is built for that. Now if you are talking about parking it and letting it run and run while in drive, that is just plain silly. There are some people that will start the car on a cold morning, and let it warm up in gear, with the wheel chocked, on the theory the transmission warms up better. I live in a cold climate, but I have never bothered to try that.
Q: Adding a Sub to my car?
I was thinking of putting a Kicker Solo Baric 12" sub to my 1998 Chevy Suburban. What else would i need to do (eg. get an amp)? Would i need a new deck?
Its a stock deck. I willing to pay up to $800
A: you don't have to replace the radio but if you did you would have better sound quality and a lot more system adjustments
all you need is a line output converter ("LOC") to give your radio a set or RCA outputs to hook the amp up to--- here are some http://www.sonicelectronix.com/cat_i331_line-out-converters.html
you WILL need an amp, but the amp needed depends on the needed RMS wattage at the particular impedance (ohms) that you are at
more info is needed to recommend an amp or the size/gauge or wires that will be used
info needed to PROPERLY match amps and subs/speakers
the subs voice coil setup (DVC or SVC)
the subs impedance (ohms
the final impedance at the amp (how the subs are wired
the number of subs
the subs RMS (continuous) wattage
or the subs model number
Q: Turn up my brakes?
How do i turn up my rear brakes on my 1998 chevy suburban C1500. they barley work and my brake pedal is very low because of them.
yes i have drum brakes on the back and disc on the front. The front ones work great. I just got all new pads rotors drums everything and they don't work, just the front ones work.
ive also did the slack ajusture thing where you back up and slam the brakes and they still don't work.
A: Drum, as opposed to disk brakes? They self adjust every time you back up and stop. If they are not working they probably need to be replaced, not adjusted.
Q: Flowmaster?
How much would Flowmaster cost for a 1998 Chevy Suburban. Also, what model should I get that is medium loud.
A: It would be hard to beat the flowmaster 40 series delta flow.Ive installed lots of these on my customers trucks and they like the sound and the torque these mufflers give.Best of luck.http://www.car-stuff.com/store/?N=9873+4294967265+1588+11920+9164
