Q: I need some info on 1997 chevy suburban?
I need to find out what the module that is in the distributor cap is called. I'm not getting any spark! Do I just need to clean up my distributor?
A: The item you are referring to is called an ignition control module. This module controls the amount of spark. The ignition coil controls whether you get a spark or not. Check that before the module.
Q: Does the 1997 Chevy suburban have a "Lock out" in the transmission?
I just bought a '97 Suburban and My first day driving it home from the dealer, i noticed once i hit about 35 mph and 60 mph, the whole truck "jumps", as if the tranny had a major slip, so i brought it back to the dealer and the guy there told me that the suburban has a lock out in the transmission. Anyone know anything about this?
A: It depends on the severity of the 'jump' Depending on axle ratio, this could be when the torque convertor is locking up. I would think that this is what your feeling if you have the 4.10 ratio.
On my truck, I have 3.73 gears, I get full torque convertor lock up at 75mph, and the ability to lock under light load at 40mph.
Watch the tach when the Burb has this issue. If you see the engine speed drop by ~300rpm you have nothing to worry about. All you can hope for is that it is this. And if you have a lower axle ratio, it will only amplify this.
Q: how to repair back door on 1997 chevy suburban?
Son bought 1997 chevrolet suburban with back doors that open out - the door with the handle opens - the other door - the inside latch doesn't work - and i cannot figure out how to open it - i figure if i can get it open - i can fix it - anyone have any ideas??
A: There is a handle in the door jamb of the left hand door, viewable when you open the right hand door, if that handle doesn't work the rod or rods may have come off the handle. you will need to remove the panel on the inside of the door (some models are screwed on and others have clips and should just pry off) then look to the left if the rods popped off you could try to reattach them and open the door. The rods are held in place by little clips that will probably be found inside the door, if not stop by a dealership or body shop and get new ones then put the panel back and you should be good to go.
Q: How to take off inside door panel for chevy suburban 1997.?
The lock is stuck I need to take of the door handel to open the door. The door is closed so I need to open the panel from the inside.Does anyine have a diagram to the door???
A: I have no diagram but you should be able to eye ball it and see what screws need to come off. then remove the pannle clips.
Q: Installed pioneer stereo and no sound out of middle speakers in 1997 chevy suburban?
A: You need to turn on a factory amp that runs the rear door speakers. It's not necessary to go the the actual amplifier in order to do this. Just go back to the radio wiring and make sure the factory amp turn-on wire is connected to the Pioneer's blue/white amp turn-on wire. The factory amp turn-on is usually in the "power antenna" location in the stock harness; GM normally uses a pink wire for this function. If you used an adapter harness, then the blue wire in the harness should be connected to the blue/white wire in the deck.
You don't need to do anything special to use the stock amp with your new head unit, except for connecting the wire to turn it on.

Good Luck. LARRY!
Q: I want to know how to disconnect my stereo in my 1997 chevy suburban, it 's draining my battery?
A: Sounds like you would be better off replacing the battery. If it really is happening, you have a short, it could be a bigger problem than just disconnecting the battery.

Q: what kind of fuel milage do you get with a 1997 chevy diesel suburban?
A: have a 3/4 ton 94 with 4.56 gears an get 14-15mpg at 70mph
and 15.8-16.2mpg at 55 mph
Q: what should be the normal hot/cold pressure on a 1997 chevy suburban?
should the temprature gage read between 100 & 125 degrees, or between 125 and 150 degrees
A: It should run around 180 degrees. 150 is too cool. The engine will not run right if it's not brought up to temp. Plus, the parts in the engine are made with such a close tolerance, they need to warm up properly to reduce friction when the metal expands. Good luck.
Q: looking to find a brand new engine for my 1997 chevy suburban. 5.7 liter vortex?
a nice rebuilt would be fine also
A: Try a local auto parts store. A lot of those provide remanufactured engines. Vortec, not vortex.

wheel torque
A: with wheel bearing you dont really torque them you pre load them then losen and just a little over hand tight with a wrench so its not loose but not tight but spins nice and easy. make sure you use hi temp grease when you pack the bearings.
-good luck
Q: How do you disassemble a 1997 Chevy suburban Power steering pump?
I have pulled the pump from the vehicle and went to auto Zone to buy a replacement. When we looked at it my pump has a different set up. The existing pump had a reservoir, a metal tube, and a housing that holds what looks like a sensor and a place to screw my second line the pump. The new pump has the reservoir, metal tubing, but just a threading where it looks like the sensor could screw in. The old pump appears to be a one piece casting so how do I tear down teh existing pump or do I need to go to a chevy parts dealer for a true OEM part?
A: it Sounds like autozone may have given you the wrong pump, gm used 2 systems on that year, one with and one without electronic variable orifice or EVO,before you try to install the one you have check to make sure they sold you the correct one for evo,and they should offer a pump with reservoir that makes the swap alot easier, but your evo switch will have to be transferred from your old pump either way--a side note if you are changing the pump for a lack of power steering at low rpm or idle condition your problem may actually be the evo switch ,they had some problems with those, hope this helps
Q: how do i put the middle seat down in a 1997 chevy suburban?
ok -ok - i KNOW am being dense. ty for the person who instructed me how to fix the back door of my son's suburban. my friends are moving today - and i cannot figure out how to "fold down" the middle seats in the car - the back seats flip easily into cargo space - but the middle seats do not - i can see where the seat hinges - so i know they must fold in - but i cannot figure this out - any suggestions (other than a brain implant) would be appreciated!! the car did not come with a users manual so i am operating sort of blind here
A: There has to be a lock lever somewhere by that hinge, lower left of the seat. IT may also be in the very low back portion of the seat. It should be excess-able when you are standing at the rear door, drivers side, when open, some where, keep looking , Good luck.
